WH&S Laws
The laws have been implemented across all states except Victoria, and these laws include:
- WHS Act
- WHS Regulations
- Codes of Practice
The Model WH&S Act provides a consistent framework for securing the health and safety of workplaces and workers. Here is a brief summary of the framework, taken from Safe Work Australia.
- To protect the workers and visitors from harm by requiring duty holders to eliminate and minimize risk. (Keeping a safe workplace is the responsibility of every staff member if you notice a risk, report it).
- The company provides for a fair and effective representation of staff on the WH&S Committee and for representation leading to consultation and cooperation.
- The Company takes a constructive role in promoting improvements in practice and encouraging health promotion where possible. (example, offering flu vaccines to workers).
- Promoting information, education and training to staff.
- Complying with the act. For example, identifying risks and keeping a risk register.
- Eliminating risks where possible, while monitoring other risks.
- Develop a framework for continuous improvement. ( I can help with the framework)
