Someone asked me this question the other day, and although it is not Mandatory, it is advisable as legally a business is obliged to implement work health and safety policies to provide a healthy workplace for their workers.
A written workplace policy provides a framework to manage risks and demonstrate compliance with the act.
In the event of a serious accident occurring at work, it will show your legal compliance with the WH&S Act and that you have met your obligations to your employees.
There are a few other policies that an employer should consider, especially if you have more than 5 employees.
